Supplementary PIP is the PIP with additional requirements arises from unplanned or new activity implemented after main PIP approval. MoHFW, Government of India may seek a Supplementary PIP in case of availability of additional budget or due to programmatic requirements.
- Sometimes, supplementary PIPs reflect adhocness in the planning process. It increases workload at all administrative levels and few occasions often leads to lack of clarity.

States may propose only one supplementary PIP, wherever necessary. The States must include suitable increase in deliverables but must not reduce deliverables agreed during NPCCs.
